PTI Develops Renewable PET Bottle and PET Tank Production System

Plastic Technologies Inc. (PTI) has developed a foaming PET bottle and PET tank production system that is suitable for the existing recycling program.
This new process first injects a foamed parison and then blows the parison into a finished shape. Frank Semersky, vice president of PTI, said that nitrogen is currently the preferred foaming agent, but carbon dioxide can also be used.

Semersky said in a telephone interview that the bottle technology, called oPTI, does not have to add pigments that could contaminate the regeneration stream to create a white or silver bottle wall.

Semersky said: “We have molded the white foamed bottle into a transparent bottle after remelting and processing, and will not pollute the clean regenerated stream.”

PTI explained in a press release that the foamed PET bottle meets existing barrier performance specifications and that the bottle is rigid and can reduce the thickness of the barrier by 5% without affecting the original performance. At present, the application scope of the new PTI technology is mainly bottle grade PET, but it is expected to expand to polylactic acid (PLA) and polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) in the future.

Semersky said: "We can produce single-piece foamed bottles or overmolding on the inner PET layer to form foam."

In addition to beneficial regeneration, the oPTI bottle has a unique appearance and is very attractive to consumers. In the injection molding process, the vortexes and streaks on the outer wall of the bottle can be better controlled, thereby improving the grip of the bottle.

PTI claims that this bottle is the first in the industry. Semersky said that the company has applied for a patent for it. Semersky said that at high gas levels, foam containers can withstand hot filling without excessive shrinkage. The gas level in the foam wall is in the range of 2%-8%. Barrier additives can be added to extend the shelf life.

The PTI bottle incorporates Mucell microcellular foam injection molding technology licensed from Trexel Inc. In the first stage, nitrogen was injected into the polymer melt on a modified injection molding machine. When the hollow cavity of the injection cycle fills in the pressure drop, foaming occurs. Use processing conditions to control the expansion of the hole. PTI said that it was then blown into preforms on an unmodified conventional blow molding machine.

Semersky said that PTI has signed a technology agreement with an unknown company. PTI plans to grant technology licenses to different industries.

The business scope of PTI, headquartered in the Netherlands, includes packaging design and development, rapid prototyping, and material engineering evaluation.

Also known as a Bar Strainer, a Cocktail Strainer is used to remove solid materials from the liquid. It`s typically used after a drink has been stirred or shaken to remove fruit, ice, or other solid materials that the bartender doesn`t want in the final cocktail. There are three basic types of cocktail strainers:Hawthorne Strainer,Hawthorne Strainer,Fine-Mesh Strainer.

We have many style and new design bar strainer for choice.
