Most foods in shopping malls and supermarkets are now packaged in plastic. The quality of plastics is directly related to food safety and consumer health. From this week, starting from January 1st this year, 39 kinds of food packaging products such as plastic wrap and disposable lunch boxes are forcibly implemented in the market, which is often referred to as QS. There is no food plastic that crosses this safety threshold. Packaging cannot be produced or sold anymore.
Experts from the China Plastics Association conducted an investigation on the sales and use of plastic food products on the Beijing market.

According to China's General Rules for Production Licenses for Food Packaging, Containers, Tools, etc., the first batch of food plastic products that implement the market access system consists of 39 varieties, which are divided into three categories: packaging, containers, and tools, and basically cover common usages. According to regulations, enterprises can only print QS quality and safety signs on products after they have passed the market access system review and obtained industrial product production licenses. However, most food plastic products in this supermarket are not printed with the QS logo. Only one type of plastic cutting board is marked with QS.
According to Announcement No. 23 issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China in 2007, plastic products for food produced before January 1, 2008, whether or not the QS mark is printed, are allowed to continue to be sold within the warranty period. At present, supermarkets have required all suppliers to begin January 1 this year and must provide a copy of the industrial product production license issued by the quality inspection department, or they will no longer be permitted to enter the supermarket.
In six shopping malls and supermarkets, there are not many varieties of foods printed with plastic products printed QS logo. Accompanying experts conducted an initial identification of the quality of some products through an intuitive detection method. It was found that the food plastic products distributed by supermarkets in these supermarkets had no problem with QS logos.
Through investigations, it was found that in the marketing segment, the types and quantities of food plastic products with the QS logo printed thereon are relatively small. In terms of product quality, supermarkets in shopping malls are generally better, and the situation in the wholesale market is uneven.
Compared with other materials such as glass, ceramics, etc., the use of inferior raw materials or excessive use of additives in the production of plastic products makes it easier to transfer some harmful substances into foods, resulting in a relatively high risk. On the other hand, there are about 3,700 enterprises that produce plastic products for food in the country. Among them, small enterprises and small workshops with less than 10 people account for about one-third of the total, and it is difficult to supervise them.
In light of the difficulties and existing problems in supervision, the access system for food plastics products is strictly controlled from the production conditions, management specifications, and testing and evaluation of enterprises. The requirements for health standards have basically reached the level of food production companies. In terms of management norms, even after careful stipulations on the toilet, it is necessary to re-apply, wash and sterilize before returning to the workshop. The requirements for product testing are also a key part of the access system. In addition to requiring companies to test every batch of products, they also require regular sampling inspections by the quality supervision department.
According to the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of Food Production, some small companies or unscrupulous companies may use unfavorable raw materials to produce some materials, or add excessive amounts of unsafe substances during production, in order to reduce costs. Therefore, we require that production companies regularly compare the inspection data with our designated inspection agencies, so that the safety of their ingredients can be controlled in a timely manner.
According to reports, among the more than 3,700 food plastics production enterprises in the country, there are more than 1,000 companies that have obtained production licenses for industrial products, and more than 2,000 of them are in the process of applying for certification.
